The Vestry is delighted to announce the appointment of the Revd Yousouf Gooljary as the next Rector of St Martin’s. The announcement of his appointment on Trinity Sunday was warmly welcomed by the congregation. Yousouf was educated in London and is a graduate of Exeter University, where he studied Physics. He is currently a member of the Ministry Team at St Mark’s, Portobello. He has extensive experience as a lawyer, a teacher (both of Physics and the Guitar) and he served for eight years as a community worker in Manchester Moss Side, during which time he studied for a Diploma in Community Development at Manchester University.
Yousouf trained for ordained ministry with the South East Institute for Theological Education and went on to achieve a BA Honours degree in Applied Ministerial Theology. He served as curate at St Alfege, Greenwich, and then as Assistant Priest in the Becontree South benefice before moving to Edinburgh to serve as Associate Rector at Christ Church, Morningside. He is a long-standing member of the Iona Community.
Yousouf is a widower with two sons: Kane aged 17 who now lives in London; and Leo aged 12, who is a pupil at Boroughmuir High School. He is very much looking forward to getting to know the congregation of St Martin’s and, in his role as Chair of the Board of St Martin’s Community Resource Centre, the wider community of Gorgie-Dalry.
