In November 2011, St Martin’s Congregation handed over the responsibility of running the building to St Martin’s Community Resource Centre (SMCRC). This new company is a partnership between the congregation and community groups. This creative partnership is providing an exciting new resource to benefit the whole community in the Gorgie/Dalry area of Edinburgh, by modernising and refurbishing the building.

SMCRC will be a safe and welcoming place, providing practical, flexible and appropriate worship and meeting space for different groups, events and information distribution… a resource for the whole community. It will also provide accommodation for several community organisations including Spokes and St Martin’s Church.

The St Martin’s Community Resource Centre is managed by a company where all users are members of the company.

Phase 1 of the redevelopment is now complete (at a cost of £300,000), with a remodelled entrance, kitchen and toilet facilities and renovated hall and office spaces.

What are we fundraising for?

St Martin’s is situated in an area dominated by tenement flats and people with a lower wealth, health and educational attainment.  The lack of funding for advice and information places and proper open meeting spaces has been a concern for people in the area for some time.

SMCRC is widely used by a number of community groups and organisations. However, it does not have disabled access and the renovation needs completing (including running hot water and toilets for downstairs).

Phase 1 created a resource centre with upstairs

  • A modern kitchen
  • Toilet
  • Large worship space and community hall
  • Smaller meeting room

But Phase 2 will finish the job and create downstairs:

  • Full disabled access via lift from upstairs
  • Modern toilets
  • Office space for community organisations
  • Small hall, meeting rooms and consultation rooms for community use

Please help us reach our remaining target of £42,000 to complete Phase 2
